When the housing market plummeted in early 2007, Park and Josh quickly grew frustrated and dissatisfied. Yes, most in the real estate business did. The subprime mortgage crises ruffled many feathers among of us.
But the market meltdown wasn’t the only thing troubling the duo. No, Park and Josh’s dissatisfaction with the real estate business ran deeper. Much deeper.
You see, bureaucracy and red tape had raided the real estate market of all creativity like a midnight marauder. An offense that had not only occurred in the United States, but in many parts of the world.
Residential properties around the globe have adopted a herd-like appearance. Absent of all difference and charm. No consideration given to the land. Just carbon copy dwellings stretching far and wide like military columns marching in unison. Strict. Regimented. Predictable.
Park and Josh felt jaded by a real estate market mired in a blurry sameness.
Refusing to allow themselves to be constrained by conventional wisdom, took action on a lifelong dream. The partners put on their Indiana Jones fedoras and embarked on a three-month long, world-wide scouting mission to unearth that distinct and uncommon feeling that’s missing from modern living.
Their journey took them to the other side of the horizon, and straight into the heart of Latin America. Park and Josh visited hundreds of properties, which took them off-roading through Nicaragua’s rock-filled, river-sliced passages. Riding horseback along Costa Rica’s lush jungle trails. Boating off Panama’s southeast coast of Panama near Chiriqui Gulf National Marine Park.
Park and Josh spoke to every real estate agent, attorney and property owner along the way.
The guys discovered that different is not found in flashy architecture or decor. It’s not layered in lavish amenities. And it’s certainly not the result of super-sizing your home.
